Sony plans to bring female superhero from the Spider-Man universe to cinemas

The under-performance of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 has forced Sony into rethinking its strategy, and that's a good thing! No one sets out to make a bad movie and the latest installment was a bit of a mess so it looks like they're going to be a little more careful moving forward. Sony has already announced that Drew Goddard's Sinister Six will now be occupying the Spidey 3 slot on November 11, 2016, but it looks like they're aiming to bring a little more estrogen into the equation as a female superhero is being groomed for a theatrical release before AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 hits theaters.

Lisa Joy-Nolan has been hired to pen the script, who's more recently been attached to the upcoming WestWorld TV show for HBO. Right now, Sony is aiming to have the film hit in 2017 to bridge the gap between SINISTER SIX and SPIDER-MAN 3. What character they plan to bring to the silver screen is under wraps. Somehow I don't see Spider-Woman coming to the screen so soon, so perhaps Black Cat or Silver Sable may make an appearance? In any case, Sony is adamant in stretching out the Spidey-verse, so I only hope they don't rush things in an effort to join the Marvel/DC party.

With Wonder Woman right around the corner, and whatever Marvel has up it's sleeve, it looks like we're going to see an influx in female superheroes. Black Widow and Gamora have been seen recently kicking ass, and if these new characters are as well-drawn as those two, I'm completely game for some women taking the bulk of the screentime. Word on the street is that GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY has pulled in the largest percentage of females yet for a superhero flick, so I think women are more than ready.

Whatever woman's superhero flick Sony has planned will hit sometime in 2017.
