We haven't heard much about Sony Pictures' plans for the sequel to their 2015 release GOOSEBUMPS since GOOSEBUMPS 2 was officially announced last April, but the studio has now shared some good news for viewers who want to see more R.L. Stine-inspired monster action: GOOSEBUMPS 2 is scheduled to reach theatres on January 26, 2018.
The first GOOSEBUMPS film took a rather unexpected approach to bringing creatures created in the Goosebumps book series to the screen. Rather than adapting any specific stories, the film included author R.L. Stine as a character and had its monsters literally coming from the pages of his books.
When Zach unwittingly unleashes magical monsters on the town, he must team with his new friends Champ, Hannah and R.L. Stine to send the ghouls back where they came from before it's too late.
Somewhat surprisingly, the concept worked exceptionally well. I caught the first GOOSEBUMPS during a plane ride and enjoyed it much more than I expected to, especially since I was never a Stine reader.
Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski came up with the story for GOOSEBUMPS, with Darren Lemke handling the screenplay. Lemke is coming back to write GOOSEBUMPS 2, which will be directed by returning director Rob Letterman. Jack Black is expected to reprise the role of Stine in the sequel.
GOOSEBUMPS 2 is being produced by Deborah Forte and Neal H. Moritz, who also produced the first film.
