Sony Classical dropping deluxe reissues of original Star Wars soundtracks

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

STAR WARS is crack.

There are no ifs, ands or buts about it. No matter how much we try to pull ourselves out, the release of anything cool that harkens back to the days of the Original Trilogy pulls us right back in. It also pulls in our wallets and sucks out whatever cash we have in there, because we just can't help ourselves. Right now I have five different versions of the STAR WARS box set, across VHS, DVD and Blu-ray, and, if they ever drop those original theatrical cuts, I'm going to rush right out and buy them to, because… STAR WARS.

The soundtracks of those movies are just as important a piece of the magic as everything else is. Sony Classical knows that, and they're looking to lure you in with the prospect of owning new deluxe reissues of the original STAR WARS soundtracks for all six films in the saga. You've got three options to choose from. But, if you want my take, the one that has the best chance of coming home with me is the vinyl set, because who doesn't want to hear the scores of John Williams that way?

(Okay… the digitals are pretty tempting, too, just so I can always have my STAR WARS on the go. Nothing like turning my rush hour drive on the highway into the final approach on the Death Star using a few select tracks.)

  • Star Wars: The Ultimate Vinyl Collection includes each of the six film soundtracks in deluxe gatefold sleeves faithfully replicating the original artwork.
  • Star Wars: The Ultimate Soundtrack Edition includes the original six soundtracks in mini-album jackets, plus a bonus CD featuring audio interviews with Harrison Ford and John Williams. Also included is the DVD Star Wars: A Musical Journey, a one-hour special highlighting select musical themes alongside key sequences from the films. Rounding out the set are a fold-out poster and three collectible stickers.
  • Star Wars: The Ultimate Digital Collection features a bundle of the six original soundtracks available for the first time as high-definition downloads.

You'll be able to secure the copy of your choosing worldwide as of January 8, 2016, so store away some of those holiday gift certificates, and you've got yourself yet another pretty cool STAR WARS collection.
