We're now just two weeks and change out from the big-screen debut of Sonic the Hedgehog, the adorable, blue speedster of Sega's long-running video-game franchise, but that debut could have been somewhat more terrifying if the studio had gone with their original design of the character. Thankfully, fans immediately voiced their displeasure regarding the film's design of Sonic, and the studio pushed back the release in order to give the visual-effects team more time to design a far more pleasing take on the character. My nightmares thank you.
While the redesign certainly hits all the right notes, it remains to be seen if SONIC THE HEDGEHOG will actually rise above much of its video-game brethren and deliver an entertaining film, but Paramount Pictures have released a handful of new clips which gives us a taste of Sonic's first big-screen adventure.
The official synopsis for SONIC THE HEDGEHOG:
Based on the global blockbuster video-game franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG will hit theaters on February 14, 2020.
