Sonic the Hedgehog was a surprising success for Paramount (a good thing given the costly redesign) so it didn’t take all that long for the studio to get the ball rolling on a sequel. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be hitting theaters next spring and will be bringing a few more iconic characters from the videogame series to the big screen, including Tails.
We actually caught a glimpse of Trails in the post-credit scene from the first movie where he was voiced by Colleen O’Shaughnessey. She’s voiced Tails since 2014 and was the only original voice-actor to reprise their role for the movie, and she announced today that she’ll be back for Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
“Taking my old pal Tails for another adventure,” Colleen O’Shaughnessey wrote. “Thrilled to announce I’m the voice of Miles “Tails” Prower in #SonicMovie2! Can’t wait for y’all to see him on the big screen.” Ben Schwartz has returned once again to voice Sonic himself, and he’ll be joined by Idris Elba as the voice of Knuckles the Echidna. The Sonic the Hedgehog sequel will also see the return of James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, the sheriff of Green Hills, Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski, a veterinarian and Tom’s wife, as well as Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik.
The official synopsis for Sonic the Hedgehog 2:
After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is ready for more freedom, and Tom and Maddie agree to leave him home while they go on vacation. But no sooner are they gone, when Dr. Robotnik comes back, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search of an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to be released on April 8, 2022.
