A new trailer for director Lars Klevberg's remake of the 1988 classic CHILD'S PLAY has arrived online, and this one does contain things that fans have been hoping to see in the remake's marketing – a shot of Chucky the killer doll's face, and a sample of the voice we'll hear coming from the doll (a voice provided by Mark Hamill). Those things are obligatory, though. They had to show us something before the movie reaches theatres, but they're still trying to show as little Chucky as possible.
While there isn't a whole lot of Chucky action to see in the trailer below, it does set up the human characters in the film and offers glimpses of mayhem. The new Chucky is an A.I. gone wrong, so he has abilities the original Chucky never had.
Starring Gabriel Bateman and Aubrey Plaza, the new CHILD'S PLAY follows
Karen (Plaza), a single mother who gifts her son Andy (Bateman) a Buddi doll, unaware of its more sinister nature.
Other cast members include Brian Tyree Henry, Beatrice Kitsos, Ty Consiglio, and Carlease Burke.
Scripted by Tyler Burton Smith, this CHILD'S PLAY was produced by David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith through their company KatzSmith Productions. MGM subsidiary Orion Pictures will be releasing the film through their United Artists Releasing banner on June 21st.
I can't say I'm excited about this movie, but it looks like it could be entertaining.
