X-MEN: APOCALYPSE goes into production this spring and the casting bonanza is now well under way. Bryan Singer’s follow up to DAYS OF FUTURE PAST will introduce young versions of mutants Cyclops and Jean Grey; back in November we told you that Chloe Grace Moretz among others were testing for the Grey role. It looks like they haven’t settled on an actor for either part as more young stars have surfaced who are said to be testing for the parts. Word has it Moretz had to pass on the role due to schedule issues.
Latino Review has a look at the actors that are set to test for the roles of Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm:
For Cyclops we have Taron Egerton (KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE, top middle), Jamie Blackley (IF I STAY, top right), and Tye Sheridan (MUD, top left) going for the part. Sheridan gave great performances in THE TREE OF LIFE and MUD so it's no surprise that he's said to be the frontrunner for the part.
As for Jean Grey, Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones’ Sansa Stark, bottom far left) and Saoirse Ronan (HANNA, second from left) are said to be contenders. Obviously a little biased for the Stark sister, but Turner would be great for that role! We certainly know she can handle big budget drama.
Rounding out the report is news that Storm may be sporting a mowhawk this time around and Alexandra Shipp (House of Anubis, second from right) and Zendaya Coleman (Shake It Up, far right) are the actresses set to test for that role. While neither actress is that well known right now, both are certainly making impressions on the young television audiences. The report doesn’t mention if the previous names considered are out of the running now or not. Names like Hailee Steinfeld and Elle Fanning were mentioned at one point as being on the shortlist of actresses up for the part of Jean Grey.
We will be sure to keep you posted on all things X-Men, but in the meantime, what do you think about the potential choices so far?
X-MEN: APOCALYPSE opens in theaters on May 27, 2016.
