Although Solo: A Star Wars Story holds the unfortunate distinction of being the only box-office bomb in the Star Wars franchise, the film continues to gather passionate fans who would love to see a continuation of the story. One of those fans is co-writer Jonathan Kasdan, who told THR that he’d love to bring Qi’ra (Emilia Clarke) back for a Solo sequel or her own series on Disney+.
Jonathan Kasdan isn’t sure if there are any plans to revisit the characters of Solo, but said he’s been “intrigued” by Marvel’s recent Special Presentations and would love to see Lucasfilm do the same. “I’m always afraid to ask Kathy [Kennedy] because she can see right through me,” Kasdan said. “Despite all my resistance, she instantly sees right through me, and she can see my desire to tell more stories there. But in recent months, I have been intrigued by the wonderful Werewolf by Night as a potential form of storytelling on Disney+. So I would love to see Lucasfilm embrace a short-form novella version for telling some of their stories. That certainly seems like a place where future stories about those characters could live.” Marvel’s Special Presentations seem to have done well so far, so it will be interesting to see if Disney’s other properties try something similar.
The Solo co-writer added that even before he joined the project, he was “really passionate about creating a different kind of femme fatale in the Star Wars universe, someone who was sincerely morally ambiguous.” The relationship between Qi’ra and Han Solo is one of the reasons he would want to revisit the characters. “As the years have gone by and there has been more Star Wars, my enthusiasm for doing more Solo has waned only because there’s so much great Star Wars out there right now,” Kasdan said. “But the thing that I would love to revisit is the relationship between the two of them, because there’s so much fun and complexity to be found in the relationship between Han and Qi’ra.” As for Emilia Clarke, she has expressed an interest in returning to the role, but it remains to be seen if anything will happen.
