Sofia Coppola’s steamy southern thriller The Beguiled drops a new trailer

The Beguiled

As I've never read the Thomas Cullinan novel nor seen the 1971 film starring Clint Eastwood, I wasn't entirely prepared for what the recently released trailer for Sofia Coppola's THE BEGUILED had in store for me; in fact, I almost wished that I hadn't watched it in order to preserve the suspense. When a wounded enemy soldier (Colin Farrell) arrives at a Southern boarding school run by the icy Martha Farnsworth (Nicole Kidman), a series of events are set in motion as "sexual tension and dangerous rivalries" overtake the school.

"Bring me the anatomy book."

That final line might just be my favourite part of the entire trailer. Although I get the feeling that it shows off a bit more of the plot than it should, I'm definitely pumped to check out Sofia Coppola's THE BEGUILED. The film also stars Kirsten Dunst (HIDDEN FIGURES), Elle Fanning (THE NEON DEMON), Angourie Rice (THE NICE GUYS), Oona Laurence (PETE'S DRAGON) and will make its world debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2017.

The official synopsis for THE BEGUILED:

“The Beguiled” is an atmospheric thriller from acclaimed writer/director Sofia Coppola. The story unfolds during the Civil War, at a Southern girls’ boarding school. Its sheltered young women take in an injured enemy soldier. As they provide refuge and tend to his wounds, the house is taken over with sexual tension and dangerous rivalries, and taboos are broken in an unexpected turn of events.

After its premiere at Cannes, THE BEGUILED will open in theaters on June 23, 2017.
