Sofia Coppola & Bill Murray’s A Very Murray Christmas special gets a teaser

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Back in the olden days, television used to be home to all sorts of variety shows and holiday specials. Whether it be the infamous STAR WARS Holiday Special or something hosted by Johnny Cash or Dean Martin, the variety special is a product of the era it was in. But, Bill Murray is going to be the latest to try and bring it back.

A while back, we heard that Murray and director Sofia Coppola were planning a holiday special that would showcase a lot of Hollywood all-stars joining Murray for some Christmas carols and other holiday shenanigans. We now have our first look at A Very Murray Christmas thanks to this Netflix teaser.

Written by Sofia Coppola, Bill Murray and Mitch Glazer and directed by Sofia Coppola, A Very Murray Christmas is an homage to the classic variety show featuring Bill Murray playing himself, as he worries no one will show up to his TV show due to a terrible snow storm in New York City. Through luck and perseverance, guests arrive at the Carlyle hotel to help him; dancing and singing in holiday spirit.

The special will also have appearances from George Clooney, Paul Shaffer, Amy Poehler, Julie White, Dimitri Dimitrov, Michael Cera, Chris Rock, David Johansen, Maya Rudolph, Jason Schwartzman, Jenny Lewis, Phoenix’s Thomas Croquet, Christian Mazzalai and Laurent Mazzalai, Frederic Moulin, Rashida Jones, Miley Cyrus, and more. The details as to running time and format are not yet known but I have high expectations for this LOST IN TRANSLATION reunion. Plus, being on Netflix means there is likely more creative leeway than there would be on a traditional network.

A Very Murray Christmas is slated to debut this December on Netflix.
