SNOWPIERCER is a great film. From South Korean director of THE HOST, Bong Joon-ho, the film told the story of a large train that circled the Earth and housed the entire population of the survivors of a new ice age caused by global warming – but which also holds a dark secret. The film was dark, action packed, funny, and always surprisng. And while not subtle by any means, it's treatise on class relations was both universal and poignant. And with Trump winning the presidency, it looks like the film is going to be more relevant than ever.
In any case, it looks the film will also be the inspiration of a new pilot at TNT. No word on how it will differ from the film, or if it will be connected to it at all; however, it does seem that Bong Joon-ho will in fact be one of the executive producers on the show.
Executive vice president of original programming for TNT, Sarah Aubrey, had this to say about the project:
SNOWPIERCER has one of the most original concepts to hit the screen in the last decade, and it’s one that offers numerous opportunities for deeper exploration in a series format…on a world where humanity is pushed to the extreme.
It seems that end of the world shows are all the rage, what with the success of THE WALKING DEAD, THE LAST MAN ON EARTH, THE 100 and even TNT's own THE LAST SHIP. And I think the show, if it were to delve more into the politics and sneaky maneuvering among the train, could be interesting. But since the film gave away the film's twist ending, could it sustain itself for multiple seasons? Stranger things have happened, so we'll see.
Hell, maybe we can see someone actually eat babies instead of just monologuing about it?
So what do you guys think? Good idea, bad idea, or idea you kind of like?
