With a new Marvel movie seemingly opening every weekend to massive box-office dollars, let us not forget that one of the first and best adaptations of a Marvel property to the big screen was Stephen Norrington's BLADE starring Wesley Snipes.
And if you're as much of a fan of BLADE and BLADE II as we are here at AITH, then you'll be pleased as punch to hear that none other than the Daywalker himself, Wesley Snipes is out and about talking up two new BLADE projects on the horizon.
Snipes on the future of BLADE:
There are a lot of conversations going around right now, and we're very blessed to have the enthusiasm and interest in something coming from that world again. We've created two projects that fit perfectly into this world, and when people see them, I think they're only going to have a problem with deciding which one they love the most
Snipes on Marvel's involvement:
All the main execs [at Marvel] and my team, we've been discussing for the past two years. Everyone's enthusiastic about it, everybody gets it. But they got a business to run and they gotta square the things that they gotta figure out before they can get to it, I guess. In the meantime, we got a business to run and our own slate of things to do so…But the next time you see something in [the Blade universe], mark my words: what we did before is child's play compared to what we can do now.
Nice! I can only hope that Marvel and New Line can get together and put all their ducks in a row to make this happen. The world needs more BLADE movies (preferably with Snipes in the lead) and with the recent juggernaut success Marvel saw with BLACK PANTHER, I can only imagine they want to get a new BLADE into the works faster than you can say "some motherf*ckers are always trying to ice-skate uphill."
Are you excited for more BLADE movies? Let us know below! The original 1998 film was directed by Stephen Norrington from a screenplay written by David S. Goyer and followed:
A half-mortal, half-immortal out to avenge his mother's death and rid the world of vampires. The modern-day technologically advanced vampires he is going after are in search of his special blood type needed to summon an evil god who plays a key role in their plan to execute the human race.
Until we hear more on just what the hell these two new BLADE projects might be, you can always head on over to Amazon and snag a copy of the original on Blu-ray RIGHT HERE.
