Snipes on Mahershala Ali’s Blade: Imitation is the best form of flattery

Marvel's upcoming BLADE reboot starring Mahershala Ali is still searching for a screenwriter and a director. Recently we heard a killer rumor that said original BLADE actor Wesley Snipes was being brought back as Dracula, the villain in the reboot. Whether that ends up being true or not remains to be seen. But today we have word that Snipes finds the casting of Ali as new Blade to be "the best form of flattery."

Specifically, Snipes says:

People are very, very sneaky. They try to make it about the actors. It's not about me and him. I'm happy for him to be considered. I'm happy for them looking at him. Flattery… what do they say? Imitation is the best form of flattery. It's something that he has acknowledged that he wanted to do and his family wanted him to do it, so I'm appreciative of him getting the love that I've created something that others want to carry own and make their own stamp on.

Meanwhile, the original BLADE followed this synopsis:

Half-mortal, half-immortal is out to avenge his mother's death and rid the world of vampires. The modern-day technologically advanced vampires he is going after are in search of his special blood type needed to summon an evil god who plays a key role in their plan to execute the human race.

The original 1997 adaptation was directed by Stephen Norrington (THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN) from a screenplay written by David S. Goyer based on the character created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan. Peter Frankfurt, Wesley Snipes, Robert Engelman, Andrew J. Horne, and Avi Arad produced. It starred Snipes, Stephen Dorff, Kris Kristofferson, N'Bushe Wright, and Donal Logue. Buy it on Blu-ray HERE.
