The movie from writer/directors Britt Poulton and Dan Madison Savage centers on a young woman named Mara (Englert) who falls in love with Augie (Mann), whom her father (Goggins), who presides over a church of serpent handlers, does not approve of. The movie was picked up out of Sundance this year by 1091 Media after being met with solid reviews.
If the intense thrills that feature tons of slithering snakes aren't getting your horror sense tingling then the work from the cast certainly should. Goggins and Colman look captivating in their roles and the rest of the supporting cast looks to be doing some great work as well.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Deep in Appalachia, Pastor Lemuel Childs (Walton Goggins) presides over an isolated community of serpent handlers, an obscure sect of Pentecostals who willingly take up venomous snakes to prove themselves before God. As his devoted daughter, Mara (Alice Englert) prepares for her wedding day, under the watchful eye of Hope Slaughter (Academy Award Winner Olivia Colman), a dangerous secret is unearthed and she is forced to confront the deadly tradition of her father’s church. Also starring Kaitlyn Dever, Jim Gaffigan, Thomas Mann, and Lewis Pullman.
THEM THAT FOLLOW hits theaters August 2.
