Smile, say cheese, then die in this trailer for Polaroid

Some folks will tell you that a picture is worth a thousand words, while others will recoil at the thought of having their photo taken, claiming that there's a chance the process can steal a part of your soul. Now, as evidenced by the new trailer for POLAROID, it appears as if director Lars Klevberg is taking the latter mythos to the next level.

Check out the trailer for POLAROID below, if you dare:

In POLAROID, a teenage loner stumbles upon a vintage Polaroid camera that houses a terrible secret: anyone who has their picture taken by it will suffer a violent and tragic death. The new horror film from the producers of THE RING and THE GRUDGE is based on a short film presented by Klevberg and stars Kathryn Prescott, Mitch Pileggi, Grace Zabriskie, Tyler Young, Keenan Tracey, Samantha Logan, Priscilla Quintana, Madelaine Petsch, and Javier Botet, with production by Roy Lee and Chris Bendern.

If the concept for POLAROID sounds familiar, it's because the setup is quite reminiscent to the plot for R. L. Stine's Goosebumps novel "SAY CHEESE AND DIE!," only with a teen angst-driven edge and definitely a bit more violence. This is not to say that the concept was directly lifted from Stine's family-friendly horror novel, but you've got to admit that it bears a strong resemblance.

POLAROID will look to steal your soul in theaters beginning on August 25th.
