After all the frustrations and tragedies 2016 has brought it would seem that A MONSTER CALLS is the perfect movie to close out the year with. A story about dealing with loss and handling the curveballs life throws at you, CALLS is filled with lessons we would all benefit from in learning. That, and Liam Neeson voices a massive tree monster who smashes things, so if you don’t dig all the feelings flying around at least there’s some expensive chaos for you.
On that note, two new clips have dropped for the movie based on the acclaimed book, and both feature much of the aforementioned monster destruction that accompanies the gut-punching emotion.
I have concluded that I won’t officially finalize my end-of-the-year list until I’ve seen this film (and Martin Scorsese’s SILENCE, for that matter). It just doesn’t feel right to exclude a movie I’m anticipating this much. I read the book this year and it knocked me for a loop, and what I’ve seen from these clips and the trailer the movie looks like it will be an honorable adaptation of the beautiful source material from Patrick Ness (who also wrote the script). Oh, who am I kidding, I just want to see Liam Neeson smash things. Smash everything, Liam Neeson!
A MONSTER CALLS goes wide January 6 with Felicity Jones, Lewis MacDougall, Toby Kebbell and Sigourney Weaver, and you can read JimmyO’s glowing review here!
