Smallville’s Tom Welling would love to play Superman in The Batman universe

Tom Welling is no stranger to portraying the Man of Steel, having played the character during his humble beginnings on the hit series Smallville for ten seasons. Fans of Smallville loved his take on a younger Clark Kent and they may like his latest suggestion about joining the new universe of Batman films, particularly the Robert Pattinson-led, The Batman.

While a guest on the "El mundo geek de Ernestoneitor" podcast. Welling says he would love to join The Batman universe as Superman to suit up alongside his friend, Robert Pattinson. I had no clue these two were buddies but he thinks it would be pretty fun to suit up as the Man of Steel once again in that particular universe:

"Yeah, I think that would be cool. My buddy Rob Pattinson, he is going to be the new Batman. I would love…it would be fun to be the Superman that shows up in his movie, just because he is a friend of mine. Yeah, who knows."

Welling is clearly having a little fun throwing that idea out there but it would be cool to see Welling fully taking on the Superman persona. Smallville followed Clark Kent (Welling) in the fictional town of Smallville, Kansas before he becomes the Man of Steel. The first four seasons focus on Clark and his friends in high school and his love story with Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk). After season five, Smallville ventures into an adult setting, eventually focusing on his career alongside Lois Lane (Erica Durance) at the Daily Planet and introducing other DC comic-book superheroes and villains. It isn't until the final moments of the finale that we get the signature shot of Kent pulling up his white dress shirt to reveal the iconic Superman logo. Needless to say, Welling never got to be Superman as we know him so it would be cool to see him fully in action as the Man of Steel.

Welling also mentioned that he would love to cameo on The CW's The Flash as the character as well. Welling did reprise the role for The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event set in the ArrowVerse and he's obviously open to the idea of doing more. I have to say that Welling, along with Michael Rosenbaum who played Lex Luthor on Smallville, really do love the fandom behind that show and they always seem open to bringing these characters back for the fans. I think having any one of them back in any capacity, would be great.

It has been previously reported that The Batman will be set in DCEU's Earth-2 so it exists on an alternate Earth that will be familiar to comic book fans but it puts it in a completely different universe to the likes of Ben Affleck's Batman. This leaves many fans wondering whether this cinematic Earth-2 will feature all-new versions of every DC superhero alongside Pattinson's Batman. That would leave the door open for Welling to portray Superman in that universe if Warner Bros. was ever open to the idea.
