Smallville: Rewatch podcast sets premiere date with series stars Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum

The series rewatch podcast trend continues with another fan-favorite show from the past and this one is bound to be pretty popular. Boy Meets World just hopped on the trend just recently while shows like The O.C. and One Tree Hill have already launched popular rewatch podcasts. Joining the ranks now is the DC Comics series, Smallville, and now we have a premiere date for the podcast that will feature the two main stars, Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum.

Per Variety, the Smallville rewatch podcast, Talk Ville, is set to premiere on July 13, 2022. Tom Welling, who played Clark Kent/Superman, and Michael Rosenbaum, who arguably gave the best portrayal of Lex Luthor, will be hosting the new podcast that will see them revisiting each episode of the series. New episodes will drop each subsequent Wednesday and will be available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Sticher, TuneIn, Google Podcasts, and other platforms.

Welling and Rosenbaum will have plenty of content to go through because Smallville ran from 2001-2011and 217 episodes. The first five seasons of the show aired on The WB but once The WB and UPN merged to form The CW, Smallville survived the transition and aired for five more seasons on the newly formed network. The show followed the coming-of-age adventures of a teenage Clark Kent in his fictional town of Smallville, Kansas before he becomes Superman. When speaking about the podcast Welling said, “I’m glad we’re finally able to do this! Looking forward to rewatching the series, sharing stories, and revealing insights from my time on ‘Smallville.’” Rosenbaum also added, “‘Smallville’ was one of the most successful series on television and it’s the most successful thing I’ve ever been a part of. Rewatching these old episodes with Tom is like going back in time… and it’s a happy place.”

The actors will rewatch each episode and provide behind-the-scenes information and anecdotes from the show. This is going to be interesting on a few levels. It will be a fun revisit with two people who had first-hand experience being there but they’ll likely touch on some of the scandals that have become associated with some of their former co-stars. Sam Jones III, who played Pete Ross on the first three seasons of the show, had a sex tape leak with his then-model girlfriend Karissa Shannon back in 2010 and he was convicted of conspiracy to possess illegal drugs with the intent to distribute that same year. Jones pleaded guilty to conspiracy and served 10 months in jail. Then there is Allison Mack, who played Chole Sullivan for the entire run of the series. She became bigger than her Smallville fame when she became a member of NXIVM, a cult posing as a multilevel marketing company. Mack was arrested in 2018 on charges of sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy, and forced labor conspiracy in relation to activities at NXIVM. The actress ultimately pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy charges and was sentenced to three years in prison in 2021. I imagine it would be hard to avoid those elephants in the room on the podcast.
