Every year for the last four years, the folks who run the The Merkins YouTube channel have gotten slasher icons Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, and Ghostface together to perform songs as a boy band called Slashstreet Boys. The first Slashstreet single was called “Slashing Bodies“, and that hit has been followed by “I’ll Kill You That Way“, “As Long As You’re Bloody“, and “Die By My Knife” – which can be seen below. The latest Slashstreet Boys release is “Keep Slayin’ Teens in the Dark”, and you can check out the video for that one in the embed above.
As you may have deduced from the titles of these songs, they’re all parodies of Backstreet Boys songs. In order: “Everybody”, “I Want It That Way”, “As Long As You Love Me”, “Larger Than Life”, and “Quit Playin’ Games with My Heart”.
As far as I’m concerned, it’s always a gift when The Merkins uploads one of the slasher-performed parody song videos, so the week before Christmas seemed like the perfect time to share the video for “Keep Slayin’ Teens in the Dark”. Even genre fans who have an intense hatred for boy band-style pop music (I can’t say I’m a huge fan of it myself, despite having someone in my life who makes sure I’m subjected to a lot of Backstreet Boys songs) might get some enjoyment from the Slashstreet Boys videos, since the lyrics the Merkins come up with are so goofy, as is the sight of slashers acting like boy banders.
The Slashstreet Boys videos aren’t the only slasher music parodies released by The Merkins, so I highly recommend looking through their channel to see what else they have on there. All of the Slashstreet Boys members have their own solo projects on the side.
