Skyline Radial starts filming this year, compared to Fast Five and The Avengers

Last August, Skyline franchise writer Liam O’Donnell announced that he had just finished writing the script for Skyline Radial, the fourth entry in the alien invasion series. At that time, he said he had “no idea how likely this is to get made”. But now Skyline Radial is indeed moving forward, and Deadline reports that filming will begin sometime this year. Casting is already underway.

O’Donnell will be directing Skyline Radial himself. The story centers on

the franchise’s main character Rose Corley. When she and her crew embark on a daring mission to rescue her father, Mark, from a secret prison, they are confronted with the ultimate power of the universe: an ancient alien race known only as The Radial.

This franchise got its start with the release of Skyline (watch it HERE), directed by the Strause brothers from a screenplay by O’Donnell and Joshua Cordes, in 2010. O’Donnell went on to write and direct 2017’s Beyond Skyline (watch it HERE) and 2020’s Skylines (watch that one HERE). Lindsey Morgan played Rose Corley in both Beyond Skyline and Skylines.

Screen Media has picked up the international sales rights to Skyline Radial, and their Foresight Unlimited division will be presenting it to potential buyers at the Cannes film market later this month. Speaking with Deadline about the project, O’Donnell compared Skyline Radial to a couple of very popular blockbusters:

I could not be more excited to be working with Screen Media to build out our franchise and deliver what our fans have been asking for. As crazy as it sounds, we see this as our own niche version of a Fast Five/Avengers type of sequel where we are bringing together the characters from previous installments into a bigger, crowd-pleasing sci-fi martial arts adventure.”

Screen Media provided the following statement:

Liam’s vision and passion for Skyline Radial promises continued success for the Skyline franchise. We are excited to be part of it and ensuring audiences worldwide will once again enjoy the thrills of Skyline.”

I’m not a fan of this franchise myself, but I’m glad O’Donnell is still getting the chance to tell his Skyline stories and that fans will have another sequel to check out. Are you a Skyline fan? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
