It’s time to get back in the habit…again! Deadline gives us the lowdown on the final chapter in the Sister Act trilogy. Whoopi Goldberg is, of course, slated to reprise her role as Sister Mary Clarence, and this time, she’s been dropping some names of who she’d like to join the sisterhood with her. Whoopi was last seen in her popular role in the 1993 film Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, which featured an ensemble of teen cast members which included a pre-music breakout Lauryn Hill and a pre-fame Jennifer Love Hewitt.
Goldberg was recently on the Charlamagne Tha God Comedy Central show, Hell of a Week when she spoke about the new ensemble she’d like to assemble for this entry. “I want everybody,” Goldberg said when asked about casting. “I want as many people who want to have some fun because I really, desperately need to have some fun.” Goldberg may be inferring to her tenure on the talk show, The View, which discusses a bevy of heavy topics in the news where she had been known to get tense multiple times when issues got out of hand.
Some names she dropped for her cast wishlist include Lizzo, Keke Palmer, and Nicki Minaj. All of whom she listed are known to be talented singers, and the Sister Act series couples the comedy element with musical performances. Goldberg will be producing the film along with comic actor, writer, producer, and director Tyler Perry, who is also known to have donned a dress from time to time. Goldberg says the script should be done by the end of the month.
The Sister Act series were moderately successful comedies as the first one earned 231 million dollars at the worldwide box office, and its sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, would garner 125 million worldwide.
This new installment is planned to be released on Disney+.
