Fourteen months have gone by since it was announced that Aisha Dee of The Bold Type and Channel Zero would be starring in the horror film / social media satire Sissy, and now we finally have a good update to share about the film. Sissy is set to have its world premiere in the Midnighters section of the SXSW Film Festival next month, and in anticipation of this screening a trailer has been released online. You can watch that in the embed above, and check out the film’s poster at the bottom of this article.
Filmed in Canberra, Australia, Sissy was written and directed by the duo of Hannah Barlow and Kane Senes. The film tells the story of
Cecilia (aka Sissy), teen BFF of Emma. The two were going to grow old together and never let anything come between them, until Alex, her bully and tormentor, ruined all of that. Twelve years later, Cecilia is a successful social media influencer living the dream – until she runs into Emma for the first time in over a decade. Invited away on Emma’s bachelorette weekend, Sissy finds herself stuck in a remote cabin with her high school bully… and a taste for revenge.
Dee is joined in the cast by Emily De Margheriti (I Hate Kids), Yerin Ha (the upcoming Halo series), Lucy Barrett (Bloom), Shaun Martindale (The Tailings), April Blasdall (The Book of Once Upon a Time), Daniel Monks (Silent Witness), and newcomers Camille Cumpston and Amelia Lule. Barlow, who previously appeared on Two Sentence Horror Stories, also has an acting role in the film.
Sissy was produced by Lisa Shaunessy, John De Margheriti, Jason Taylor, and Bec Janek. Barlow and Senes served as executive producers alongside Alexandra Burke, Vicki De Margheriti, William Day Frank, Anna Dadic, Jacqueline Kerwick, Seth Larney, Mathieu Van De Velde, and Clement Dunn.
Sissy looks like fun, so hopefully, it won’t be long before we hear when and how those of us who aren’t attending SXSW will be able to watch it. What do you think of the Sissy trailer?
