Mike Flanagan directed all ten episodes of the Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House himself, but for the second season – for which the series is being retitled The Haunting of Bly Manor – he's going to be sharing the directorial duties with at least one other filmmaker.
Ciarán Foy, director of CITADEL, SINISTER 2, and the upcoming film ELI (which will be available to view through the Netflix streaming service as of October 18th), revealed to our friends at Bloody-Disgusting that he will be directing some episodes of The Haunting of Bly Manor.
Foy said he was offered the Bly Manor gig after working with the show's executive producer Trevor Macy on ELI.
While The Haunting of Hill House was based on a novel by Shirley Jackson, The Haunting of Bly Manor is drawing inspiration from the works of Henry James, particularly his 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw. Most famously previously adapted into the 1961 film THE INNOCENTS, The Turn of the Screw is
a psychological thriller about a woman who takes a governess job for two orphans in a Victorian home. She begins to see what she believes are ghosts and suspects the children's bizarre behavior is the result of supernatural powers.
Confirmed cast members for The Haunting of Bly Manor are Victoria Pedretti, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Henry Thomas, and Kate Siegel.
The Haunting of Bly Manor is expected to reach the Netflix streaming service in 2020.
