The ensemble for SCREAM 5 continues to grow with the addition of French model, singer, and up-and-coming actress Sonia Ammar.
Sonia Ben Ammar joins an impressive ensemble for the horror sequel that includes returning cast members Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, and Marley Shelton. Other new additions to the franchise include Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Dylan Minnette, Mason Gooding, Kyle Gallner, Jasmine Savoy Brown, and Mikey Madison. This will be Ammar's first major movie role but no word on who she will be playing in the sequel.
With her casting news, also comes a report via "Variety" that SCREAM 5 is expected to begin filming before the end of the month. Spyglass Media, which acquired the rights to the SCREAM franchise last year, and Paramount Pictures are set to begin filming the sequel by that time with production taking place in Wilmington, North Carolina. SCREAM 5 will have the distinction of being one of the most high-profile projects to begin production since Hollywood went dark back in March due to the pandemic. Movies like THE BATMAN and JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION are shooting overseas but SCREAM 5 will be one of the first major movie productions to get started in the States and this will of course be under rigorous health and safety protocols on set.
The late and great Wes Craven directed all four of the previous SCREAM entries and this time Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence are on board to direct. Their partner Chad Villella is on board as executive producer along with franchise creator, Kevin Williamson. James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick are talking on screenwriting duties.
The SCREAM franchise began in 1996 and was followed by three sequels that ran through 2011 with the release of SCREAM 4. The franchise helped save the horror genre when it was initially released and the films have brought in more than $600 million worldwide at the box office. SCREAM 5 is expected to hit screens on January 14, 2022.
