Last month we shared the news that Russell Crowe would be starring in an untitled supernatural thriller for producer Kevin Williamson and directors Joshua John Miller and M.A. Fortin. As filming has now begun on that project, a title has been revealed and the names of seven of Crowe's co-stars have been announced.
The title of this one is THE GEORGETOWN PROJECT… which sounds like a placeholder. I'm not sure the movie is going to be released under that title, but maybe it will stick.
Regardless of what it's called, it is going to feature Crowe sharing the screen with the likes of Ryan Simpkins (ANGUISH), Samantha Mathis (SALEM'S LOT 2004, THE CLOVEHITCH KILLER, Into the Dark: ALL THAT WE DESTROY), Sam Worthington (TERMINATOR: SALVATION, FRACTURED), Chloe Bailey (Grown-ish), Tracey Bonner (Shudder's Creepshow), David Hyde Pierce (Frasier), and Adam Goldberg (the guy from DAZED AND CONFUSED and SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, not the creator of The Goldbergs).
Scripted by Miller and Fortin, who previously wrote THE FINAL GIRLS and developed the USA television series Queen of the South, THE GEORGETOWN PROJECT centers on
troubled actor Anthony Miller (Crowe), who begins to unravel while shooting a supernatural horror film. His estranged daughter Lee Miller (Simpkins) wonders if he’s slipping back into his past addictions or if there’s something more sinister at play.
Details on most of the characters are being kept under wraps, but it is known that Bailey will be playing Blake Holloway, "an actress cast alongside Miller."
A former actor with several horror credits to his name, Joshua John Miller also happens to be the son of Jason Miller, who played Father Karras in THE EXORCIST. A supernatural horror film that was partly filmed in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. So it's interesting to see that elements of this story reflect Miller's own life. He even named the main characters after himself.
THE FINAL GIRLS was also about the child of a popular genre star.
Williamson is producing THE GEORGETOWN PROJECT with Ben Fast and Bill Block. Filming is taking place in Wilmington, North Carolina.
