Zoë Kravitz is stepping behind the camera for the upcoming thriller Pussy Island, and she has just added a new actor to her cast. Joining Channing Tatum and Naomi Ackie is Simon Rex, fresh off the critical praise he received last year for his performance in Red Rocket.
Per Deadline, “Rex will play Slater’s (Tatum) chef, trainer, and oldest friend, Cody.” The film itself focuses on Frida (Ackie), a young Los Angeles cocktail waitress who has her sights set on philanthropist and tech mogul Slater King (Tatum). Once she successfully maneuvers her way into his inner circle and ultimately an intimate gathering on his private island, she embarks on a journey of a lifetime. Despite all the fun and excess on display, Frida senses something isn’t quite right about this island. In fact, it could be something very terrifying going on.
Not only is Kravitz directing this project but she also co-wrote the MGM thriller alongside E.T. Feigenbaum. The actress was last seen playing Selina Kyle/Catwoman in The Batman and she also found a bit of love while setting this project up. She and Tatum began dating around the time filming began.
As for Simon Rex, he received strong notices for his dark comedy-drama Red Rocket last year. Directed by Sean Baker, The A24 release was praised for its direction and for Rex’s performance. The National Board of Review also listed it as one of the top ten films of 2021 while Rex took home Best Actor honors from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the Independent Spirit Awards.
