After hearing the news that we will be getting X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016 another interesting story has come over the wire.
Fox has signed a new three-year first-look deal with Simon Kinberg. What’s most interesting about this is that the writer-producer will be able to expand and share universes with the comic properties retained within the studio. This all in the hope that Fox will have a model much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, as I indicated before, Fox does hold the rights to some of the Marvel characters. So, waiting to see that X-MEN and FANTASTIC FOUR crossover some time in the near future?
Kinberg worked as writer and producer on both X-MEN: THE LAST STAND and X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. He’s also working on the reboot of FANTASTIC FOUR. Not to mention putting his talents to work on the STAR WARS REBELS series. Here’s what he had to say:
“I have a lot of ideas on how to built those brands and do what everybody is thinking of these days: Be like Marvel. I want to be able to build stories over multiple movies.”
Kinberg plans to work on more than the already established names saying that there is a “special kind of satisfaction on working on a story that no one has ever heard before.” That said, we could see more indie comics like the adaptation of Archaia’s Rust to be directed by Carlos Saldana (RIO) which Kinberg hopes will “Evoke an Amblin-esque” tone. There’s also the ebook from Andy Weir called THE MARTIAN which has locked Drew Goddard as writer and director.
