Simon Kinberg finally announces filming date for Gambit

If you ask me what a clusterf@ck of modern movie production would look like, GAMBIT would be the first to come to mind. The movie has experienced more than its fair share of setbacks, one of the biggest losing director Rupert Wyatt as soon as they were to begin filming, eventually being replaced by Doug Liman. The movie was even supposed to come out this fall, but that had to be moved back due to the small fact they had yet to begin filming. But that’s all in the past now, and the film has finally set a production date.

In an interview with EW, Simon Kinberg said that the movie will begin shooting in the spring of next year.

We have a great script on that and hope to shoot that movie at the beginning — or spring — of next year.

Along with production starting on GAMBIT, Kinberg said DEADPOOL 2 would also look to start shooting next year, and that he will begin writing new X-MEN movies “real soon”. Despite all that news, it doesn’t appear they’ve gotten all their shit together over at Fox, as there is still no set release date for the film. Fall of 2017? Spring of 2018? The first Blood Moon of 2076? When Fox? When?!

Fox has a real mixed bag going on with their slate of new comic book movies. X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST and DEADPOOL are standouts in the genre, while many fans wish FANTASTIC FOUR and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE just didn’t happen. A common trend I’ve noticed is that when everything is going smoothly with their films it usually spells success in the end, but when even the slightest bit of doubt comes out with the production it usually ends up leading to a poor final product. With that in mind, I can’t say I have high hopes for GAMBIT. I hope I'm wrong and it turns out great, I really do.

Gambit will be directed by Doug Liman and stars Channing Tatum and Léa Seydoux
