On Monday, HBO announced that they've given SILICON VALLEY co-creator/executive producer Mike Judge a series commitment for two of the BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD alum's upcoming projects. The first is titled QUALITYLAND, a comedy that's said to be set in the near future, and shares the story of “humanity’s struggle against the tyranny of convenience — but funny.” The second is a limited series called A5, which follows a bioengineer who discovers the gene that is responsible for turning people into, well, assholes. Throughout the events of A5, the show's protagonist, will do their damnedest to “answer the questions nagging at all of us: Why do assholes exist? Why have they come to dominate our culture? And can they be cured?”
For QUALITYLAND, Judge will serve as executive producer and co-writer alongside THE DAILY SHOW's Josh Lieb. While the plot sounds as if it was spun out of Judge's 2006 comedy IDIOCRACY, the idea is actually based on a novel of the same name by Marc-Uwe Kling.
As for A5, Judge will co-write the limited series with SILICON VALLEY producer Etan Cohen. The pair will also act as executive producers. Both projects are part of Judge's exclusive two-year deal with HBO.
