It’s time for a new episode of the WTF Really Happened to This Horror Movie? video series, and in this one we’re looking at the true events that inspired Silent Night (watch it HERE), the 2012 remake of the 1984 slasher classic Silent Night, Deadly Night. You might have thought that Silent Night wasn’t inspired by anything other than the film it’s a remake of, but that’s definitely not the case. And you can find out all about the real life tragedy that led to the story of the remake by checking out the video embedded above.
WTF Really Happened to This Horror Movie? is sort of a spin-off from our show WTF Happened to This Horror Movie. WTF Really Happened to This Horror Movie? dives into movies that were based on or “inspired by” true stories, real people, and actual historical events so we can try to separate fact from fiction.
Directed by Steven C. Miller from a screenplay by Jayson Rothwel, Silent Night has the following synopsis:
Santa is back, and he’s got a brand new bag of tricks. As their small midwestern town prepares for its annual Christmas Eve parade, the sheriff and his deputy discover that a maniac in a Santa suit is murdering those he judges as “naughty.” Their sins? Porn, adultery, greed… And he will make sure they rest in heavenly pieces.
The film stars Malcolm McDowell, Jaime King, Donal Logue, Ellen Wong, Lisa Marie, Courtney-Jane White, Cortney Palm, John B. Lowe, Rick Skene, and Brendan Fehr.
