Anyhoo, I had only seen this film once in the theaters when it came out, and I don’t particularly remember FREAKING OUT about it, like many other people did. But I was willing to give it another go, and boy am I glad I did.
The film comes through with flying colors from the acting, to the story, to the tension to the dialogue. All very sweet. I enjoyed the whole tit-for-tat game that Hannibal and Clarice had going the whole movie, and I also REALLY LOVED Hopkins’ performance. I have to admit that I honestly didn’t see him in the character anymore (unlike the commercials for HANNIBAL which don’t seem to be doing much for me).
I STILL had a problem with Foster’s performance though. The first time that I saw this movie, I thought that she was waaaay too nervous and frightened for her character’s sake, and the same went the second time around. Too jittery…chill out, lady!
I also didn’t “buy” the whole scene with Hannibal skinning the dude and using his skin for his face to get outta the building, but whaaaaaaaaatever….not the end of the world.
Overall, the movie played a lot like a SOLID episode of the X-FILES nowadays, but the depth of the story, the two leads and the gripping conclusion toppled this sucker to the “great” section for me.
I gotta admit…I am now ready to see HANNIBAL!!
