Following the monstrous success of AVATAR, James Cameron began work on four sequels, which have certainly been a long time coming. The films will feature the return of just about everyone from the first film, including Sam Worthington as Jake Sully and Zoe Saldana as Neytiri. Producer Jon Landau gave AVATAR fans another small peek today as he revealed a photo from the set of the AVATAR sequels, which features Sigourney Weaver and Joel David Moore, who appear to be reprising their roles of Dr. Grace Augustine and Dr. Norm Spellman.

If you remember the first film, you'll recall that Dr. Grace Augustine didn't survive, and although we've known that Sigourney Weaver would be returning for the sequels, James Cameron has said that she would be playing a different character. While nothing has been confirmed, the above photo does feature Weaver in her Dr. Augustine clothes, which hints that the sequels could include a flashback of some sort. Weaver isn't the only actor returning to the franchise following the death of their character, as Stephen Lang has also returned to play Colonel Miles Quaritch, the villain from the first film who will fill the same role in the sequels, just in a more evolved form.
The four AVATAR sequels are slated to hit theaters on December 17, 2021, December 22, 2023, December 19, 2025, and December 17, 2027, but as production has been forced to shut down due to COVID-19, it remains to be seen whether we'll see those dates pushed back.
