The characters of writer/director M. Night Shyamalan's UNBREAKABLE and SPLIT are set to collide in his upcoming movie GLASS, and the filmmaker took to his Twitter account this morning to share the mash-up sequel's teaser poster. The JoBlo Movie Network's own Paul Shirey got to see a trailer for GLASS at the CinemaCon event a couple months back, and reported that the story takes place in an asylum, where Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson's UNBREAKABLE characters and James McAvoy's SPLIT character are "being treated as people that are convinced they’re superheroes." That concept and setting are reflected in the new poster, where we see the three patients and their more impressive alter egos.
The official synopsis for GLASS goes like this:
Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.
Also returning from SPLIT is Anya Taylor-Joy, and returning from UNBREAKABLE are Spencer Treat Clark and Charlayne Woodard. New addition Sarah Paulson is in the mix as well.
Shyamalan has really turned his career around in the last few years. He was the butt of the joke for a while, but now GLASS is one of the most highly anticipated movies he's ever made. I'm all for this collision of characters. The only bad thing I have to say about GLASS is that its January 18, 2019 release date is feeling too far away right now.
GLASS will be a presence at the San Diego Comic-Con next month, with a panel scheduled to take place in Hall H on July 20th. Shyamalan will be there with the cast and "a surprise".
