Shut In trailer: Vincent Gallo stars in contained thriller coming in January

Two months after we saw a teaser trailer for Shut In, a contained thriller from director D.J. Caruso (DisturbiaxXx: The Return of Xander Cage), and one month out from the film’s January 2022 release, a full trailer has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above. Revealed in this trailer is the fact that Shut In marks the return of actor Vincent Gallo (Buffalo 66, The Brown Bunny) after a near decade-long absence from the screen.

Written by Melanie Toast and starring Rainey Qualley (Love in the Time of Corona), Shut In tells the story of

a young single mother (Qualley) who is held captive by her violent ex, with her two young children left at risk. She must do everything to protect them and survive.

Dallas Sonnier produced the movie with Amanda Presmyk through their company Bonfire Legend. Shut In is going to be released through the website of conservative media company The Daily Wire next month, and Daily Wire co-founders Ben Shapiro, Jeremy Boreing, and Caleb Robinson serve as executive producers.

When first announced two years ago, Shut In was described as “a thriller in the vein of Panic Room” and was set up at New Line Cinema, with Jason Bateman on board to direct. After New Line’s option lapsed, producer Sonnier took the project over to The Daily Wire.

Caruso told Deadline:

I was excited to direct a fiercely independent film from a brilliant script by Melanie Toast that seeped into my creative DNA back in 2019, when I had first read it. I was given the creative freedom to craft a film that features a flawed, but graceful character that must fight addiction, and dire circumstances to find light in a very dark place.”

The Daily Wire got into the film business with the acquisition of Kyle Rankin’s thriller Run Hide Fight earlier this year. One of their upcoming projects is a revenge thriller starring Gina Carano and written by The Hitcher‘s Eric Red (based on his novel White Knuckle – read our review HERE).
