Shudder's all-new horror anthology series based on George A. Romero and Stephen King's CREEPSHOW is now streaming over on the horror platform. And to celebrate today's release, last night showrunner Greg Nicotero hosted a Reddit AMA and spilled the beans on some cool shite – most especially that the series almost featured a prequel to the original film's best tale THE CRATE!
Nicotero revealed last night:
At one point, I was hoping to do a prequel to the Crate, where you see them on the Arctic expedition capturing Fluffy. But it’s a little more complicated than that regarding the rights to the stories.
Now while this prequel idea sounds like fun to me, for sure, I think I'd rather see a sequel storyline revolving around some poor soul accidentally fishing Fluffy out of that lake (or whatever) Hal Holbrook threw his ass in at the end of the first tale. But maybe that's just me!
Each episode of Creepshow will contain two different stories. Today's debut episode features Greg Nicotero's adaptation of Stephen King's short story GRAY MATTER, adapted by Byron Willinger and Philip de Blasi and starring Giancarlo Esposito, Tobin Bell, and Adrienne Barbeau. It centers on:
Doc and Chief, two old-timers in a small, dying town, brave a storm to check on Richie, an alcoholic single father, after encountering his terrified son at the local convenience store. The story, first published in 1973, is part of King’s best-selling 1978 collection, Night Shift.
The premiere's second story is director John Harrison's take on BIRD BOX author Josh Malerman's THE HOUSE OF THE HEAD, which centers on:
a little girl who discovers her new dollhouse might be haunted.
The six-episode first season is all set to star Adrienne Barbeau, Giancarlo Esposito, Tobin Bell, Tricia Helfer, Dana Gould, David Arquette, Jeffrey Combs, Kid Cudi, Big Boi, Bruce Davison, and DJ Qualls. You can check out the full list of stories set to be told in the first season right over HERE.
