UPDATE: Shudder did release the History of Horror podcast on Friday, but have since removed it and sent out the following statement:
Shudder announced and posted the companion podcast to Eli Roth’s History of Horror series prematurely this week, and we’ve temporarily removed it. We deeply value our relationship with Mr. Roth and apologize to him and his fans for jumping the gun, which happened without his creative consultation. We are involving Mr. Roth now and hope to bring back the podcast with his creative inclusion.
The History of Horror documentary series is still available for viewing on the streaming service. We'll let you know when they re-release the podcast.
The podcast announcement article as originally posted on Friday:
Not only does the streaming service Shudder offer a good selection of horror movies, it also serves as host to a handful of podcasts, including the scripted show Video Palace and an audio drama presentation of an S. Craig Zahler (BONE TOMAHAWK) script called The Narrow Caves… I really need to get around to listening to that soon. Shudder's podcast selection will soon be expanding by three, as they have announced that they will be hosting new podcasts from Eli Roth, Adrienne Barbeau, and Elijah Wood.
First up is Eli Roth's History of Horror: Uncut, a companion to the History of Horror documentary series that aired on AMC and is now available to watch on Shudder.
This Shudder Original podcast takes things to a new level with the full, uncut interviews that Eli Roth and his producers conducted for the show. Over the course of twelve episodes, Eli Roth’s History of Horror: Uncut will offer listeners hours of never-before-heard, candid conversations between Roth and Stephen King, Edgar Wright, Quentin Tarantino, Diablo Cody, Bryan Fuller, Catherine Hardwicke, Victor LaValle, Tippi Hedren, Bruce Campbell, Josh Hartnett, Greg Nicotero and Rob Zombie.
Eli Roth’s History of Horror: Uncut is hosted by Shudder curator Sam Zimmerman and produced by Liam Finn (producer of the Shudder’s Original podcast Video Palace), with sound design by Jeremy Lee and music by Michael Teoli.
All episodes of Eli Roth's History of Horror: Uncut were released on Shudder today, exclusively for its members. Episode 1, featuring Roth's interview with Stephen King, has also been made available for non-members on Apple Podcasts and other platforms. Subsequent episodes will be released on Mondays and Fridays.
The next podcast on Shudder's slate is She Kills, hosted by genre icon Adrienne Barbeau.
She Kills is a Shudder Original podcast by and about women in horror. Each episode pairs notable women—actors, directors, writers and journalists—in frank and revealing conversations about female representation and inclusion in genre filmmaking. Guests include beloved stars like Barbara Crampton, Jennifer Tilly, and Dee Wallace, genre innovators like Anna Biller, Alex Essoe, and Pollyanna McIntosh, and writers, critics and horror experts like Blaire Bercy, Grae Drake, and Dana Schwartz.
"It's about time we heard more from women in horror than just their blood-curdling screams!”, said host Adrienne Barbeau. “I am honored to be part of this fascinating new podcast featuring the kick-ass women of the genre. From playing victims to villains and vampyres to Valkyries, oh, the stories we have to tell."She Kills is produced by Insurrection Media, the studio behind Sundance Now’s Exeter podcast, and executive produced by Blaire Bercy, Kiliaen Van Rensselaer, Jordanna Fraiberg, and Deborah Henderson.
All ten episodes of She Kills will be available for Shudder members on Friday, March 1st. Like Eli Roth's show, episodes will also be released for non-members on Apple Podcasts and other platforms, every Monday and Friday.
And then we have Visitations with Elijah Wood & Daniel Noah, which doesn't yet have a specific release date but will be available sometime this spring.
Boundary-breaking indie production company SpectreVision—partners Daniel Noah, Josh Waller, Lisa Whalen, and Elijah Wood—has given the world game-changing horror films like A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night and Mandy. Now, Wood and Noah invite listeners to join them as they drop in on some of their most creative friends and colleagues for casual conversations at locations of their subjects’ choosing—at their homes, on set, or in their personal workshops—in the ten-episode Shudder Original Podcast, Visitations with Elijah Wood & Daniel Noah. Episodes will feature visits with filmmakers Ana Lily Amirpour, Taika Waititi, and John Landis, writer Dan Harmon, musician Flying Lotus, and fashion designers Rodarte, among others.
“We're big fans of the loose, conversational style of interview shows from the 1960s, and leapt at the chance to document intimate interactions with some of our friends and colleagues creating incredible work in genre and beyond,” said Elijah Wood and Daniel Noah.Visitations with Elijah Wood & Daniel Noah is created by SpectreVision and executive produced by Daniel Noah, Josh Waller, Lisa Whalen and Elijah Wood, with edited by Graham Reznick (director of the Shudder Original Series Deadwax).
Visitations will be receiving the same sort of release as History of Horror and She Kills.
I love a good movie-related podcast, so I will definitely be giving all three of these a try.
