I think we were all surprised at how good FOX's THE EXORCIST series ended up being. I know I was on the fence (to the say the least) at first, but by the end, I was on board with another season for sure.
And it turns out the upcoming second season will be much different than the first. Via THR we just received a bunch of new info on what to expect come season 2, including a 6-month time jump and at least one of the Rance family (Genna Davis?), is expected to return in season two, if only for a cameo.
Oh, and there will be a connection to THE EXORCIST III!
Showrunner Jeremy Slater sat down for an interview with THR and I have included the best bits here for you guys to scroll on through. So get to it and we'll meet up on the other side.
Jeremy Slater on a returning Rance family member:
At some point in the season, you will see one cast member from season one show up again for a fun little cameo. It’s going to happen in a pretty unconventional way.
Slater on THE EXORCIST III connection:
There’s a moment from The Exorcist III that every horror fan knows and loves. We’re looking into how we can get that moment in our show this year. It involves a hospital. It’s the single best jump scare in horror movie history aside from Ben Gardner’s (Craig Kingsbury) head coming out of the boat in Jaws.
Slater continues:
Also, I love the idea of a demonic serial killer. We’re not exactly doing the Gemini Killer (Brad Dourif) this year with the new demon. But, I think you are going to see that this demon has a pattern and a methodology. It’s a boogeyman throughout history that has claimed a lot of notches on its belt. It’s nowhere closer to being finished.
Nice! I'm a big fan of THE EXORCIST III so I'm looking forward to any and all references the new season may hold within. Like those godd*amn Pokemon, I'll catch 'em all.
What do you think of Slater and co. working in some THE EXORCIST III into season 2? Make sure to let us know what you think in the comments below, or on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!
THE EXORCIST Season Two synopsis:
Across the Atlantic, Father Bennett (Kurt Egyiawan) attempts to weed out those within the Vatican who have turned against God. Ultimately, Tomas and Marcus are led to Andrew Kim (John Cho), a former child psychologist who runs a group home for five at-risk foster children on a secluded private island off the coast of Seattle. When one of the children under Andrew’s care is targeted by a powerful force, the two priests head west, setting themselves on a collision course with Hell.
THE EXORCIST Season Two premieres Friday, Sept. 29.
