While Highland Film Group represents the psychological thriller JACKALS at Cannes, it has been revealed that distribution has already been secured for the film the United States – the U.S. rights have been acquired by Shout! Factory. The first image from JACKALS has also been released online and can be seen above.
Directed by Kevin Gruetert (SAW VI, SAW 3D), JACKALS stars Stephen Dorff, Johnathon Schaech, Deborah Kara Unger, Ben Sullivan, Chelsea Ricketts, and Nick Roux. Set in the 1980s, the film centers on
an estranged family that hires a cult deprogrammer to save their teenage son from a murderous cult.
The family find themselves under siege when cult members surround their cabin and demand the return of the boy.
A siege horror film that takes place in the '80s? I'm totally on board to check that out, especially after seeing that image of the killer cult members. I'm not a very big fan of the SAW films, so I haven't seen Gruetert's directorial contributions to that franchise, but this one seems like it has the potential to be very cool.
There's no word on when Shout! intends to release JACKALS, but we'll let you know when they announce their plans.
