Online streaming is the way of the future. But cult favorite distributor Shout! Factory has never been too concerned with the future. Their new streaming site, opened up this afternoon in anticipation of Halloween, is a free look at some of their favorite classics… On VHS.
That's right, Shout! Factory is streaming five 80's horror classics for free on their web site The VHS Vault, complete with tracking issues and all the classic nonsense that you might not-so-fondly remember from the heyday of videotapes. Dive back into the low-fi world of 80's horror fandom with titles like SLEEPAWAY CAMP, NIGHT OF THE DEMONS, DAY OF THE DEAD, CLASS OF 1984, and EXTERMINATORS OF THE YEAR 3000. Also streaming is the 2013 documentary ADJUST YOUR TRACKING, about the people who collect and adore VHS, featuring Troma's Lloyd Kaufman.
This awesome Halloween treat gives me hope for Shout! Factory's first venture into production, the Mark Pavia-helmed FENDER BENDER. If they can tap into their audience's inner child so well, the 80's set horror-thriller should be a downright blast.
Check out the web site and stream your favorite retro classics here!
