Legendary producer Roger Corman has made a lot of awesome movies on very low budgets. Over the course of his sixty-four year career, he has produced over 400 movies… and around 270 of those movies are now owned by Shout! Factory and Ace Film HK Company.
Those two companies have teamed up to acquire Corman's New Horizons Pictures library and are planning to tap into that library "for new content development, remakes, merchandise licensing programs, digital media content and syndication across streaming, TV, digital and VOD platforms."
The announcement of the acquisition namechecks just a few of the many properties Shout! and Ace now own: ROCK 'N' ROLL HIGH SCHOOL, BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS, PIRANHA, GALAXY OF TERROR, BLOODFIST, BLACK SCORPION, EAT MY DUST!, HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP, THE SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE, and FORBIDDEN WORLD. There are some shining examples of greatness just within that small sample.
I would like to volunteer my services right now, before anyone else calls dibs on this property: Shout!, Ace, if you want to revisit the concept of SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE II, I would be overjoyed to be the director who brings the glory of the guitar-playing driller killer back to the screen.
Roger Corman and his wife/fellow producer Julie Corman had this to say about the acquisition:
During the past decade our personal and professional relationships with Shout! Factory's Bob Emmer, Richard and Garson Foos, and Ace Film's Henry Luk and Adam Yuchen Ren have shown us that their independent, entrepreneurial spirit, respect for our work and creative methods of distribution and production make them especially well-suited to carry on with the New Horizons film library."
Shout! has been releasing Corman films under the Corman's Cult Classic brand since 2010. Shout! gets the rights to the films in the New Horizon library in North America, Europe, Australia, and Russia, while Ace will control the rights in China, Asia, Africa, and South America.
