It's been confirmed that four-time Grammy award winner Lenny Kravitz is going the way of Lionsgate's new action-comedy Shotgun Wedding. Per Deadline's exclusive report, the sex-on-two-legs rocker will co-star alongside Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel in the film, which also has Cheech Marin, D’Arcy Carden, Selena Tan, Desmin Borges, and Alex Mallari set to star.
Directed by Jason Moore from a screenplay penned by Liz Meriweather, Shotgun Wedding tells the story of Grace (Lopez) and Tom (Duhamel), who gather their lovable but very opinionated families for the ultimate destination wedding just as the couple begins to get cold feet. And if that wasn’t enough of a threat to the celebration, suddenly everyone’s lives are in danger when the entire party is taken hostage. Now, Grace and Tom must save their loved ones — if they don’t kill each other first.
Kravitz will play the part of Sean, Grace's globetrotting ex, with Marin stepping into the role of Robert, Grace’s father, while Carden is Harriet, Robert’s new wife. Tan will play Marge, the head of the wedding resort, with Borges stumbling in as Ricky, the permanently whisky-buzzed, embarrassing childhood best friend of Tom. Finally, Mallari will play Dog-Face, a pirate. That's right, a pirate. Yarg!
Hold up, Kravitz is playing a "globetrotting ex?" If this role allows the legendary rock star to go full-Smarmasaurus Rex I am going to be delighted. After all, no one does arrogant like a well-traveled god of the live stage. Kravitz is a man who practically oozes charisma for a living, so I really hope that he gets to apply his real-world experience to this all-too-fitting role.
Production for Shotgun Wedding is reportedly locked and loaded for action this month. We'll be sure to keep you apprised of any developments for the film, especially with regard to the true nature of Kravitz's character.
