The legendary, Oscar-nominated Mickey Rourke is set to star in the supernatural horror film She's Still Here alongside Jennifer Carpenter – who is best known to genre fans for her roles in Dexter, The Exorcism Of Emily Rose, and Quarantine. Archstone Entertainment is presenting the project to potential buyers at the Cannes virtual market.
The Gaudioso Twins (that's Anthony Gaudioso and James Gaudioso) will be directing She's Still Here from a screenplay by Martin A. Gomez. The film will tell the story of
a desperate widower who is being tormented by the vengeful spirit of his deceased wife. Exasperated, he enlists the aide of his ghost-hunting nephew to decipher the haunting’s meaning and bring peace to his household.
The immediate assumption is that Rourke would be playing the widower in this situation, but while the idea of Mickey Rourke being tormented by a ghost sounds like a solid foundation for good entertainment, that may not be the case here. According to the film's IMDb page, Rourke is playing a priest called Father Scott.
Rourke hasn't done much horror over the course of his career, but he did star in Angel Heart and had roles in the killer roach movie They Crawl and the cult classic Fade to Black. He also recently played the host known as The Projectionist in the anthology film Nightmare Cinema.
The Gaudioso are producing She's Still Here with Archstone's Scott Martin, Michael Slifkin, and Jack Sheehan, as well as Lisa Bruhn of Tenacious Films. Kimberly Hines serves as executive producer, and Sophie Rose Barry is the associate producer.
Filming is expected to begin in the fall, so it will be a few months before Rourke and Carpenter report to set.
The Gaudioso Twins previously directed the thriller The Ghost and the Whale and the crime drama Duke.
