Our last Sherlock Holmes adventure with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman is pushing two years old and fans have been clamouring for the show's return since the close of the final episode. Well, Sherlock will be back but with one big twist; instead of taking place in the modern day, a special Sherlock episode will see Holmes and Watson solving crimes in Victorian London.
The BBC has released the first trailer for the one-off special, and you can watch it right here!
Sherlock co-creator Steven Moffat had previously said that the Victorian Special will be a one-off, separate from the main series:
The special is its own thing, we wouldn’t have done the story we’re doing, and the way we’re doing it, if we didn’t have this special. It’s not part of the run of three episodes. So we had this to do it – as we could hardly conceal – it’s Victorian. [Co-creator Mark Gatiss] and me, we wanted to do this, but it had to be a special, it had to be separate entity on its own. It’s kind of in its own little bubble.
The Sherlock Victorian Special doesn't have a firm release date, but is expected to air this December. Meanwhile, production on the fourth season of Sherlock is expected to get underway next year for a 2017 release.
