Last fall, director Jeff Kopas went into production on a psychological thriller called THE BEQUEST, but that wasn't a title it was destined to stick with. Earlier this year, the filmmakers put a poll on Facebook asking fans to help them choose a title – remain "The Bequest", or rename the movie one of the following: "Ruby Red", "The Beekeeper's Daughter", "Blood Honey", or "The Hive".
Although there have been multiple projects titled THE HIVE, including a movie that just came out last year, it appears that THE HIVE won the poll and that's the title the movie is going with from here on out.
Starring 90210's Shenae Grimes (now Shenae Grimes-Beech), Kenneth Mitchell, Don McKellar, Krystal Nausbaum, Rosemary Dunsmore, Natalie Brown, and Gil Bellows, THE HIVE follows
Jenibel Heath on her return to her family's secluded island lodge to help her siblings care for their dying father, ten years after the mysterious suicide of her mother. Set to inherit the bulk of the family's estate, Jenibel fears that her siblings do not have her best intentions at heart and she struggles to keep her sanity after she becomes trapped on the island.
Kopas wrote the screenplay with Doug Taylor and produced the film with Ryan Reaney and Robert Budreau. Taylor executive produced with Marina Cordoni.
With the film now in the final stages of post-production, the international sales rights have been acquired by Spotlight Pictures. A screening will be held for buyers at the American Film Market in November.
