Production has wrapped on director Erik Bloomquist's horror film She Came from the Woods, which had an under-the-radar shoot in Connecticut. The film stars Cara Buono of Stranger Things – and just like Stranger Things, She Came from the Woods is set in the 1980s. Buono also had a role in the Let the Right One In remake Let Me In, which was set in the '80s as well. Genre projects keep taking her back to that decade.
Written by Erik Bloomquist and Carson Bloomquist, She Came from the Woods follows
the staff of an overnight camp as they conjure an old legend on the last day of the summer of 1987.
Buono is joined in the cast by Clare Foley (Sinister), Spencer List (Bereavement), William Sadler (Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey), Michael Park (who has also been on multiple episodes of Stranger Things), and Tyler Elliot Burke (The Penny Dreadful Picture Show).
The Bloomquists produced She Came from the Woods through their company Mainframe Pictures. The feature is based on a 12 minute short the brothers made in 2017, and you can watch that short below.
The Bloomquist Brothers released the following statement:
After planting the seed with our short film, we are elated to finally bring this story to full and vivid life. She Came From the Woods is a coming-of-age horror movie rooted in themes of familial legacy, the dangers of groupthink, and the motives behind the stories we tell and the secrets we keep."
Due to my love of the Friday the 13th franchise, anything that's set at a camp in the 1980s instantly has my attention. The short film was pretty good, so I look forward to seeing how the She Came from the Woods feature turns out.
The Bloomquists have previously made the features Long Lost (a thriller starring Nicholas Tucci), the vampire horror film Ten Minutes to Midnight (starring Caroline Williams), and the drama Weekenders.
