Shazam! will burst onto 4K/Blu-ray on July 16th

SPOILER warning. I'll admit to being one of those people who was more than a little surprised when critics and audiences responded enthusiastically to SHAZAM!, and although it wasn't the box-office juggernaut that some of its DC brethren were, it was enough to get the ball rolling on a sequel. Our own Editor-in-Chief Paul Shirey called SHAZAM! an "absolute gem" as well as a "damn fun time at the movies," so I can only imagine that he'll certainly be picking up a copy of the film when it hits home-media.

Thankfully, that time isn't too far off as Warner Bros. Home Entertainment have announced that SHAZAM! will be available on Digital on July 2nd, followed by a release on 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray/DVD on July 16th. Here are the special features which will be included:

  • Shazam Exclusive Motion Comic
  • The Magical World of Shazam
  • Super Fun Zac
  • Carnival Scene Study
  • Shazamily Values
  • Who is Shazam?
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Gag Reel

As for where the SHAZAM! sequel will lead, screenwriter Henry Gayden has teased that although most of Billy Batson's personal story is tied up by the end of the film, what excites him about a follow-up is the chance to explore the "family as they are at the end of that movie with their new powers and how they continue together." Will you be adding SHAZAM! to your collection?

The official synopsis for SHAZAM!:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult superhero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).

SHAZAM! will hit 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray/DVD on July 16, 2019, but you'll be able to get it on Digital on July 2, 2019.
