Just say the word, and the new trailer will arrive. SHAZAM!
Warner Bros. dropped the second trailer for Shazam: Fury of the Gods just after the poster unveiling. Zachary Levi is joined by newcomers Dame Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zegler for this entry. The new trio of ladies plays the daughters of Atlas, one of the sources of power for Shazam.
Here’s the official synopsis:
“Bestowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kids are still learning how to juggle teenage life with having adult Super Hero alter-egos. But when the Daughters of Atlas, a vengeful trio of ancient gods, arrive on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago, Billy—aka Shazam—and his family are thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of their world.“
The superhero family also makes their return. This includes Asher Angel as Billy Batson. Jack Dylan Grazer/Adam Brody as Freddy Freeman; Ian Chen/Ross Butler as Eugene Choi; Faithe Herman/Meagan Good as Darla Dudley; Jovan Armand/D.J. Cotrona as Pedro Pena; and Grace Caroline Currey as Mary Bromfield. Marta Milans and Cooper Andrews also return as Rosa and Victor Vásquez, the foster parents of Billy and his siblings.
Even though the DC Film branch is going through an overhaul, Zachary Levi has assured fans that he has not been replaced as Shazam, and future plans have not yet been announced for his character. However, the famed enemy of Shazam, Black Adam, has been shelved after his original film, and the once-anticipated meeting of the rivals now does not have a certain pathway to fruition.
Beforehand, it was assumed this film would be a step in setting up the big showdown between Shazam and Black Adam. However, Dwayne Johnson had planned and hyped that Black Adam would have shaken up the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe and wanted to post up against the big blue boy scout, Superman, even to the point of bringing Henry Cavill back. Now that those plans have subsided, there is now a bit of mystery about where this character can go, which might make for a more interesting franchise from now on.
