The latest short film from Neill Blomkamp's Oats Studios has been released and it just might be my favourite of the bunch. Sharlto Copley, who has appeared in each of Blomkamp's three feature-films, plays a rather bored God in the short who seems to be more content reading a book than observing the life of early human beings. In fact, whenever anything needs to be done, such as snuffing out fire or providing much-needed rain, God orders his butler to do it.
I'm desperately hoping that this isn't the last we see of Sharlto Copley as God, I definitely need more of this in my life. Over the past two years, Neill Blomkamp has been putting together an independent production company which aims to gives audiences a variety of experimental short films. We've since seen several offerings from the studio such as RAKKA, FIREBASE, and the shorter COOKING WITH BILL, and, speaking for myself, they've all been quite enjoyable.
It's a little too early to guess where the future of Oats Studios will lead, but it will be up to viewers such as ourselves to help fund their upcoming content, either through their official website or by purchasing DLC content on Steam, which includes many of the assets used to make the shorts. The next major Oats Studios short to be released will be ZYGOTE, which stars Dakota Fanning and a "really cool" creature.
