And the SHARKNADO frenzy continues on…
I finally got a chance to check out SyFy/The Asylum's social networking phenomenon SHARKNADO and I gotta say that as bad as it was, I found myself enjoying it for all its cheesiness. I have found myself eagerly awaiting the recently announced sequel and plan on picking up the flick when it hits DVD and Blu-Ray in September (go ahead and order yours, too! You know you wanna!).
But if you want to see the film on the big screen, you'll have your chance next week as Regal Entertainment Group announced that Regal will host midnight shows of SHARKNADO on August 2nd at approximately 200 theaters across the country. I am so there!
Ken Thewes, chief marketing officer for Regal Entertainment Group, states…
"'Sharknado' has become a force of nature in its own right. This project transcends the original television platform and has created tremendous buzz. There's just something epic about watching these huge beasts on the big screen with your friends and family. The crowd reactions will make for a memorable experience in our theatres."
At its peak, #sharknado registered about 5,000 tweets per minute, and accumulated more than 600,000 social media mentions while taking the internet by storm. Tickets for the midnight shows are available at the box office, online and through the Regal App.
Chris Silva, director of digital marketing for Regal, says…
"You know how audiences have had fun with 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' over the years. If the internet reactions to this film are any indication, then our moviegoers are primed and ready to enjoy 'Sharknado' larger than life in cinemas. Regal is proud to be giving our guests this chance to fuel the social media whirlwind by inviting friends to come to the show and tweeting reactions."
As for the film itself, the synopsis reads:
When a freak hurricane swamps the Los Angeles area, nature's deadliest killer rules sea, land, and air as thousands of sharks terrorize the waterlogged populace. Surfer and bar-owner, Fin (Ian Ziering), and his friends Baz (Jaason Simmons) and Nova (Cassie Scerbo), set off to rescue his estranged wife April (Tara Reid) and teenage daughter Claudia (Aubrey Peeples).
