Shantaram trailer: Charlie Hunnam finds nothing but trouble while searching for redemption in Bombay

Escaping to a foreign country is a great way to do some soul searching, or get you killed, whichever comes first. In the new Shantaram trailer, Charlie Hunnam travels to Bombay in search of redemption but finds his life on the line instead. Based on the internationally best-selling novel by Gregory David RobertsShantaram is a hopeful cinematic love story coupled with a thrilling epic adventure that follows one man’s journey to redemption through a country that changes his life.

Apple TV+’s official press release shows that Shantaram follows a fugitive named Lin Ford (Hunnam) looking to get lost in vibrant and chaotic 1980s Bombay. Alone in an unfamiliar city, Lin struggles to avoid the trouble he’s running from in this new place. After falling for an enigmatic and intriguing woman named Karla, Lin must choose between freedom or love and the complications that come with it.

In the Shantaram trailer, Ford becomes transfixed by the people and culture of Bombay. As he navigates his new surroundings, Ford finds himself in the company of a fast-talking local eager to show his new companion the ropes. Before long, Ford lands at the mercy of Bombay’s criminal underworld and dangerous people aware of his questionable past. Ford will need to channel his inner action hero if he wants to survive, get the girl, and foil plans that could place innocent people in the line of fire.

Hunnam isn’t the only star looking to taste the spice of life in Shantaram. The series also features Shubham Saraf, Elektra Kilbey, Fayssal Bazzi, Luke Pasqualino, Antonia Desplat, Alyy Khan, Sujaya Dasgupta, Vincent Perez, David Field, Alexander Siddig, Gabrielle Scharnitzky, Elham Ehsas, Rachel Kamath, Matthew Joseph, and Shiv Palekar.

Co-created by series writer, executive producer, and showrunner Steve Lightfoot, Shantaram is directed by Bharat Nalluri, who also executive produces. Andrea Barron, Nicole Clemens, Steve Golin, Justin Kurzel, and Eric Warren Singer co-created the series with Lightfoot. The group also serves as executive producers.

Shantaram will hit Apple TV+ at high speed with a three-episode premiere on October 14, 2022. One new episode of the 12-episode series will debut every Friday through December 16, 2022, on Apple TV+.
